Summary:
YehU is the sensory histidine kinase (HK) of the YehU/YehT two-component signal transduction system which regulates expression of yjiY in response to the presence of peptides or amino acids [Behr14, Kraxenberger12].

YehU is an inner membrane protein with six predicted transmembrane domains. The C terminus is located in the cytoplasm [Daley05]. YehU is a class I HK in which the histidine phosphotransfer domain is connected via a linker to the catalytic ATP binding domain [Dutta99, Kraxenberger12]. The input domain of YehU is predicted to contain 5 transmembrane regions; histidine residue 384 located in the transmitter domain is predicted to be the phosphorylation site [Kraxenberger12].

A strong interaction between YehU and the inner membrane transporters YjiY and YhjX has been detected. YehU is capable of homo-oligomerisation [Behr14].

Simultaneous deletion of yehU and yehT caused no significant difference compared to wild type in a phenotype microarray experiment [Zhou03].
