Escherichia coli K-12 substr. MG1655 Polypeptide: member of SoxR-reducing complex

Gene: rsxC Accession Numbers: G6873 (EcoCyc), b1629, ECK1625

Synonyms: ydgN

Regulation Summary Diagram: ?

Summary:
RsxC has an NADH binding motif and two ferredoxin-like motifs [Koo03].

The rsxABCDGE gene cluster and the rseC gene together encode a SoxR reducing system that acts to turn off SoxR-mediated induction of the SoxS transcription factor in the absence of oxidizing agents [Koo03]. RsxC is hydrophilic but is expected to be membrane-associated, as the proteins encoded by the rsxABCDGE gene cluster are predicted to form a membrane-associated complex [Koo03].

Deletion of any gene within the rsxABCDGE gene cluster causes constitutive activation of soxS transcription [Koo03].

The rsxABCDGE gene cluster has similarity to the Rhodobacter capsulatus rnfABCDGE gene cluster, which plays a role in nitrogenase reduction [Koo03].

Rsx: "reducer of SoxR" [Koo03].
