Summary:
The rsxABCDGE gene cluster and the rseC gene together encode a SoxR reducing system that acts to turn off SoxR-mediated induction of the SoxS transcription factor in the absence of oxidizing agents [Koo03]. The proteins encoded by the rsxABCDGE gene cluster are predicted to form a membrane-associated complex [Koo03].

Deletion of any gene within the rsxABCDGE gene cluster causes constitutive activation of soxS transcription [Koo03].

The rsxABCDGE gene cluster has similarity to the Rhodobacter capsulatus rnfABCDGE gene cluster, which plays a role in nitrogenase reduction [Koo03].
