ygaX and ygaY appear to be two segments of a gene encoding an uncharacterised permease of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS) of transporters [Pao98]. The ygaX/ygaY gene may be nonfunctional due to a frameshift error.
ygaY is induced by osmotic upshift [Weber02]. ygaX transcription is increased in a relA background by 4-azaleucine [Sabina03]. It also clustered with chemotaxis, flagellum, and fimbria genes in increased expression after long-term adaptation to propionate and acetate [Polen03].
