Summary:
RyeA and SraC are reported to be the same RNA [Gottesman01]. SraC is reported to be a small RNA of approximately 234-249 nt in length [Argaman01], and RyeA and RyeB are reported to be small RNAs of approximately 275 nt and 100 nt in length, respectively (and shorter species have also been detected) [Wassarman01]. RyeA and RyeB are encoded within the same inter-ORF region of the genome [Wassarman01], with RyeB being complementary to an internal segment of RyeA [Vogel03].

Interactions between RyeA RNA and Hfq protein and between RyeB RNA and Hfq have been detected [Wassarman01].

RyeA RNA is subject to RNase III cleavage which coincides with the appearance of RyeB at the onset of stationary phase [Argaman01, Vogel03].

RyeA RNA has similarity to sequences from Salmonella, Yersinia pestis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae [Argaman01].
