Summary:
Anaplerotic enzymes, the malic enzymes, phosphopyruvate synthase and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, and the fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase permit the reversal of the glycolytic path and the synthesis of 6-carbon compounds from 3- or 4-carbon compounds.
