Escherichia coli K-12 substr. MG1655 Pathway: pyridoxal 5'-phosphate salvage I

If an enzyme name is shown in bold, there is experimental evidence for this enzymatic activity.

Locations of Mapped Genes:

Synonyms: vitamin B6 salvage I

Superclasses: Biosynthesis Cofactors, Prosthetic Groups, Electron Carriers Biosynthesis Vitamins Biosynthesis Vitamin B6 Biosynthesis

Summary:
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) can be synthesized by a salvage pathway. Pyridoxal, pyroxidine and pyridoxamine are taken up from the environment and utilized.

Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate, a coenzyme for many enzymes that participate in amino acid and glycogen metabolism, can be synthesized de novo and by these salvage pathways from pyridoxal, pyroxidine and pyridoxamine that might be present in the environment.
