PEP synthetase regulatory protein (PSRP) catalyzes both the Pi-dependent activation and ADP/ATP-dependent inactivation of PEP synthetase (PEPS). PEPS is protected from inactivation by the presence of pyruvate [Burnell10].

The function of PSRP was predicted based on membership in the DUF299 protein family, which also contains the previously characterized pyruvate, orthophosphate dikinase regulatory protein (PDRP) from maize and Arabidopsis [Burnell10].
