Summary:
The ABC transporter ThiBPQ was functionally characterized in Salmonella typhimurium where it is required for the uptake of thiamine and thiamine pyrophosphate [Webb98]. Its ortholog in E. coli, SfuABC has not been functionally characterized yet but presumably also functions in thiamine uptake. thiB (sfuA) is predicted to encode the periplasmic thiamine binding protein, thiP (sfuB) the inner membrane permease and thiQ(sfuC) the energy-transducing ATPase.
