MetaCyc Enzyme: 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase

Gene: ACS2 Accession Number: G-11505 (MetaCyc)

Synonyms: 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase 2

Species: Dianthus caryophyllus

The expression of ACC synthase was up-regulated by auxin, ethylene, LiCl, pollination, and senescence. ACS2 was only slightly upregulated as a response to pollination and senescnece [Jones99]. The pollination-induced expression of ACS2 in the styles was inhibited by NBD. This indicated that the ACS2 gene was transcriptionally regulated by ethylene [Jones99].

Molecular Weight of Polypeptide: 17.5 kD (from nucleotide sequence), 17.5 kD (experimental) [Jones99 ]

Enzymatic reaction of: 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase

EC Number:

S-adenosyl-L-methionine <=> S-methyl-5'-thioadenosine + 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate + H+

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the Enzyme Commission system.

The reaction is favored in the direction shown.
