MetaCyc Enzyme: Δ1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase

Gene: put2 Accession Number: G-447 (MetaCyc)

Species: Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Summary:
Δ1-Pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase catalyzes the second reaction in proline utilization in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The two-step pathway takes place inside the mitochondria. The enzyme is encoded in the nucleus, synthesized in the cytoplasm and imported to the mitochondria [Brandriss83, Brandriss79].

Locations: mitochondrial lumen

Molecular Weight of Polypeptide: 64.435 kD (from nucleotide sequence)

Gene-Reaction Schematic: ?

GO Terms:

Cellular Component: GO:0005759 - mitochondrial matrix [Brandriss81]

Enzymatic reaction of: Δ1-pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenase

Synonyms: P5C dehydrogenase

EC Number: 1.2.1.88

L-glutamate-5-semialdehyde + NAD+ + H2O <=> L-glutamate + NADH + 2 H+

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the direction of enzyme catalysis.

The reaction is irreversible in the direction shown.

In Pathways: proline degradation
