MetaCyc Polypeptide: plastocyanin

Gene: petE Accession Number: SYNPCC7942_1088 (MetaCyc)

Species: Synechococcus elongatus PCC 7942

Summary:
Plastocyanin is an important copper-containing protein involved in electron-transfer. This monomeric protein serves in transferring electrons between the two photosystems during photosynthesis light reactions, and more specifically, it transfers electrons between cytochrome f of the cytochrome b6f complex to the P700 complex of photosystem I.

hydrogen production VIII , photosynthesis light reactions :
a reduced plastocyanin + an oxidized ferredoxin + hν → an oxidized plastocyanin + a reduced ferredoxin

Not in pathways:
an oxidized plastocyanin[chloroplast thylakoid lumen] + a reduced ferredoxin[chloroplast stroma] ← hν + a reduced plastocyanin[chloroplast thylakoid lumen] + an oxidized ferredoxin[chloroplast stroma]

Reactions known to produce the compound:

hydrogen production VIII , photosynthesis light reactions :
2 an oxidized plastocyanin[chloroplast thylakoid lumen] + a plastoquinol[chloroplast thylakoid membrane] + 2 H+[chloroplast stroma] → 2 a reduced plastocyanin[chloroplast thylakoid lumen] + a plastoquinone[chloroplast thylakoid membrane] + 4 H+[chloroplast thylakoid lumen]
