Summary:
The 6-deoxy-5-ketofructose 1-phosphate synthase encoded by the MJ1585 gene has not been purified from Methanocaldococcus jannaschii. However, its activity was proven using labeled isotope studies [White06]. It has been suggested that this enzyme catalyzes the transaldolase reaction between methylglyoxal and a hexose-phosphate, as well as the reaction used in glycolysis (EC 4.1.2.13), and that this archaeal enzyme is specifically involved in aromatic acid biosynthesis [White06].
