MetaCyc Enzyme: chloroplastic fructose-bisphosphate aldolase

Species: Triticum aestivum

Summary:
A chloroplastic enzyme with fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase activity was isolated from the leaves of well developed wheat (Triticum aestivum L. Kolibri) plants [Schnarrenberger86]. This enzyme was separated from its cytosolic homolog isolated simultaneously (see cytosolic fructose-bisphosphate aldolase). In addition to fructose 1,6-bisphosphate, the enzyme was shown to catalyze the aldol cleavage of β-D-fructofuranose 1-phosphate. The chrloroplastic enzyme represented 86% of the total leaf aldolase activity. Additionally, this chloroplast aldolase was shown to have a Km (F1,6P) value 5 times higher than that of the cytosol aldolase. However, the Km (F1P) values for either enzymes are relatively similar [Schnarrenberger86].

Enzymatic reaction of: fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (chloroplastic fructose-bisphosphate aldolase)

EC Number: 4.1.2.13

fructose 1,6-bisphosphate <=> dihydroxyacetone phosphate + D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the direction in which it was curated.

This reaction is reversible.
