Summary:
A cDNA clone was isolated from Barnadesia spinosa plant. The cDNA was recombinantly expressed in yeast. The expressed protein shares identity with GAO1 of Asteraceae. The gene encodes a polypeptide of 488 amino acids. The enzyme synthesizes germcrene A acid de novo [Nguyen10a]. This enzyme catalyzes all three steps to the formation germacrene A acid [Nguyen10a].
