Summary:
δ-Selinene synthase is primarily involved in the biosynthesis of sesquiterpenes in Abies grandis (Grand Fir) but has been shown to produce a range of monoterpenes when incubated in the presence of geranyl diphosphate. Sesquiterpenes detected (in decreasing amounts): (+)-δ-selinene (25.3%), (E,E)-germacrene B (17.4%), guaia-6,9-diene (9.7%), germacrene A (6.7%), (+)-δ-amorphene (6.4%), germacrene C (3.4%), (+)-α-amorphene (2.7%), α-selinene (1.7%), (-)-β-caryophyllene (1.5%), (+)-δ-cadinene (1.4%), (Z,E)-germacrene B (1.3% tentative assignment) , seli-3,7(11)-diene (1.2%), (-)-germacrene D (0.8%), α-humulene (0.7%), (S)-β-bisabolene (0.7%), sibirene (0.7%), α-guaiene (0.2%), (+)-α-cadinene (0.2%), α-ylangene (0.1%) and α-copaene (0.1%). Several additional unknown sesquiterpenes were detected in minor amounts (less than 1%) [Steele98]. Monoterpenes detected (in decreasing amounts): (4S)-limonene (41.2%), (Z)-β-ocimene (22.4%), β-myrcene (15.1%), terpinolene (9.3%), (E)-β-ocimene (6.0%), α-terpinene (3.6%), γ-terpinene (2.4%) and several others detected in minor amounts (less than 1%) [Steele98].
