MetaCyc Enzyme: fructose 6-phosphate aldolase 2

Gene: fsaB Accession Numbers: EG11905 (MetaCyc), b3946, ECK3938

Synonyms: yijG, talC, FSA 2

Species: Escherichia coli K-12 substr. MG1655

Summary:
Fructose 6-phosphate aldolase (FSA) is a novel enzyme activity. Its discovery in E. coli appears to be the first report of this activity in any organism. The fsaB (formerly talC, [Reizer95]) gene encodes a second FSA in E. coli whose activity has not been studied in detail. The enzyme is a class I aldolase. The physiological role of FSA is not yet known [Schurmann01].

FsaB: "fructose-six-phosphate aldolase B"

Locations: cytosol

Map Position: [4,137,069 <- 4,137,731]

Molecular Weight of Polypeptide: 23.555 kD (from nucleotide sequence)

Enzymatic reaction of: fructose 6-phosphate aldolase

EC Number: 4.1.2.-

β-D-fructofuranose 6-phosphate <=> dihydroxyacetone + D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the direction of enzyme catalysis.

This reaction is reversible.
