MetaCyc Transporter: glucosyl-oleandomycin-exporting ATPase

Summary:
The OleB protein of Streptomyces antibioticus contains two ATP-binding domains, either of which is sufficient to confer resistance to oleandomycin.

The oleB gene was expressed in Escherichia coli and purified. In addition, a recombinant Streptomyces albus strain expressing both the OleD glycosyltransferase and the OleB protein was capable of glycosylating oleandomycin and secreting the inactive glycosylated molecule. Thus it has been proposed that OleB constitutes the secretion system by which the glycosylated form of oleandomycin is secreted by Streptomyces antibioticus [Olano95].
