MetaCyc Enzyme: protoviolaceinate synthase

Gene: vioD Accession Number: G-15145 (MetaCyc)

Species: Chromobacterium violaceum

The subunit structure of this enzyme has not been reported.

VioD is a flavin-dependent and NADPH-dependent monooxygenase that catalyzes the hydroxylation of protodeoxyviolaceinate to yield protoviolaceinate in pathway violacein biosynthesis ([Shinoda07] and reviewed in [Hoshino11]).

The crystal structure has been determined, but no publication has resulted from the structure to date.

Enzymatic reaction of: protoviolaceinate synthase

EC Number: 1.14.13.-

protodeoxyviolaceinate + NADPH + oxygen + H+ <=> protoviolaceinate + NADP+ + H2O

The reaction direction shown, that is, A + B ↔ C + D versus C + D ↔ A + B, is in accordance with the direction in which it was curated.

The reaction is physiologically favored in the direction shown.

In Pathways: violacein biosynthesis

Cofactors or Prosthetic Groups: FAD [Shinoda07]
