MetaCyc Pathway: phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, initial reactions
Inferred from experiment

Enzyme View:

Pathway diagram: phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, initial reactions

This view shows enzymes only for those organisms listed below, in the list of taxa known to possess the pathway. If an enzyme name is shown in bold, there is experimental evidence for this enzymatic activity.

Superclasses: BiosynthesisSecondary Metabolites BiosynthesisPhenylpropanoid Derivatives BiosynthesisCinnamates Biosynthesis

Some taxa known to possess this pathway include : Arabidopsis thaliana col, Nicotiana tabacum

Expected Taxonomic Range: Magnoliophyta

This pathway contains the initial reactions of the phenylpropanoid pathway, from L-phenylalanine to 4-coumarate. The phenylpropanoids form a large class of secondary metabolites in plants and comprise the phenylpropanoid esters, flavonoids, anthocyanins etc. Phenylpropanoids are also the precursors of lignin.

Superpathways: superpathway of scopolin and esculin biosynthesis
